In the morning of 25 April 2025, Mr. KIKUTA Yutaka, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service hosted by H.E. Mr. Michael Hoy, the Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.

In his speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Kikuta expressed his deepest condolences to all those who lost their lives in Borneo, both in battlefields and jungles, during the World War II, while referring to the fierce battles between the Imperial Japanese forces and the Allied powers in Brunei and its surrounding areas. He also stated that Japan and Australia, which were adversaries 80 years ago, have since been making their utmost effort for peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, and are now steadfast reliable partners aiming for the same goal. He also stated that Japan, as a peace-loving nation, would continue to exert its efforts to promote global peace and prosperity, deeply engraving the lessons of history in its heart.

Ambassador Kikuta then laid a wreath at the Brunei-Australia Memorial.
