Japan’s Professional Football Team, Renofa Yamaguchi FC Trains Brunei National Youth Football Team

   The Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam is pleased to inform that the Japan Foundation Asia Center* and the Japan Professional Football League (J League) dispatched qualified Japanese football coaches from Renofa Yamaguchi FC, a professional football team in Japan, for training Brunei national youth  football team (U-14, U-12). The training took place at the ground of National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam on 22nd, 23rd and 24th June. His Excellency Mr Motohiko KATO, the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, visited the training on the 23rd June 2018 (starting from 16:30), to encourage the players and coaches and observe this sport exchange program between Brunei Darussalam and Japan.
 
 
■About “Renofa Yamaguchi ”FC:
   The team belongs to the second division of Japanese professional league, J League. They are currently the second place in the league and aiming for the promotion to the first division. They have an academy team, which is consisted by U-18, U-15 and U-12 categories.
   Mr. Toshifumi TAKAHASHI of Renofa Yamaguchi is leading the training sessions. He is a highly qualified coach who possesses JFA Class A License and has experiences in coaching top youth players for more than 10 year. He has been an academy coach of a J League team,Albirex Niigata for many years. He is also a qualified sport club manager and a licensed football referee.
 
 
■Football Project of Japan Foundation Asia Center, JFA and J League(ASIAN ELEVEN)
   Football is a highly popular sport, played by over 265 million people throughout the world. Football is also one of the most popular sport within the ASEAN nations. In order to make the popularity of this sport strengthen,“ASIAN ELEVEN” aims to provide opportunities for people-to-people exchanges between football players, teams, and enthusiasts to further strengthen the friendship between Japan and other countries and to develop a stronger football culture in Asia.
   As part of the initiative, from 2015, the Japan Foundation Asia Center, in collaboration with Japan Football Association (JFA), is dispatching Mr. Takao FUJIWARA, a qualified football coach, who has experiences in coaching in Spain as well as in Japan, to Brunei National Youth Football team. His contribution to the team was highlighted in the victory against Philippine youth team at the ASEAN U-18 tournament in September 2017.
 
 
   It is expected that through the coaching session of Renofa Yamaguchi, the U14, U12 players of Brunei Darussalam youth team would be exposed to new ideas and form innovative ways of thinking about the game, which would help their development as players. It is also aimed that both Brunei youth and coaches interact with Japanese coaches and vice versa, so that mutual understanding is formed for further development of friendship between Brunei and Japan.
