Judogi donation to Sports School

2017/10/30
On 30 October 2017, the Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, Mr Motohiko Kato, on behalf of the Kodokan Judo Institute, Tokyo, presented 11 sets of Judo Uniforms (Judogi) to the Brunei Sports School Judo Academy.

The donation was presented to the Principal of the Sports School, Dayang Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim. During the ceremony, the Sports School Judo Academy members and students had an opportunity to try on the donated judogis.

Since being established in April of 2017, the Brunei Sports School Judo Academy has promoted Judo to the public and offered open Judo classes, especially for the younger generations. The Kodokan Judo Institute is supporting the academy with this donation, as it is the only place in Brunei currently offering Judo classes.

The Kodokan Judo Institute is the headquarters of the international Judo community and was founded by Kano Jigoro (http://kodokanjudoinstitute.org/en/). The Kodokan Judo Institute contributes to the worldwide development of Judo by dispatching instructors, conducting seminars for overseas trainees, as well as donating Judo equipment.

This year, the Kodokan Judo Institute has been collaborating with the Japan Foundation Asia Centre on promoting Judo in ASEAN countries, including Brunei Darussalam. The institutes, together with the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, is ready to continue promoting Judo and cooperating closely with the National Judo Federation of Brunei.

Judo can positively contribute to the health and wellbeing of the people of Brunei, and we also hope that Judo exchanges will strengthen mutual understanding between Brunei and Japan.
