The 35th Japanese Speech Contest

The Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C), and the Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), in cooperation with the Department of Co-Curricular Education (DCCE) of the Ministry of Education, co-organised the 35th Japanese Speech Contest on Wednesday, 20th March 2024, at the Lecture Theatre, The Core, UBD. Vice-Chancellor of UBD, Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle was the guest of honour.
The aim of the speech contest was to encourage and provide a platform to participants to show their language proficiency and passion for the Japanese language through public speaking. In addition, the event aimed to create an opportunity for Bruneian students to learn more about Japan. The contest was comprised of two categories: the group presentation category and the Japanese speech category.
His Excellency MAEDA Toru, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam; Dr. Hjh Suciyati binti Haji Sulaiman, Director of Language Centre (UBD); Mr Sumardi bin Hj Abdul Hamid, Assistant Director of L3C; Mr Imran bin Tahir, Assistant Head of Arts and Creativity Division of DCCE; Ms TSUBAKI Risa, Vice President of Singapore Office All Nippon Airways (ANA); Ms HIRATA Yuna, a Japanese Language Expert from the Japan Foundation; and Mr HARA Tadashi, President of the Japanese Association in Brunei, were in attendance.
Winners received certificates and trophies together with various prizes, including Japanese books, smart speaker, Japanese restaurant “Kaizen” vouchers and stationeries from the Japan Foundation. The winner of Advanced Category received a round trip air ticket to Japan.
