The 34th Japanese Speech Contest

The Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C), and the Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), in cooperation with the Department of Co-Curricular Education (DCCE) of the Ministry of Education, co-organised the 34th Japanese Speech Contest on Wednesday 12th April 2023 at the Embassy of Japan. Vice Chancellor of UBD Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle was the guest of honour.
The aim of the speech contest is to encourage and provide a platform to participants to show their language proficiency and passion for the Japanese language through public speaking. In addition, the event aims to create an opportunity for Bruneian students to learn more about Japan. The contest is comprised of two categories: the speech category and the group presentation category.
His Excellency MAEDA Toru, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam; Dr Yabit Alas, Director of Language Centre (UBD); Mr Walter Chong, Deputy Director (L3C); Mr Julaihi bin Mohamad/Mohamat, Acting Director of DCCE Ministry of Education; Ms TSUBAKI Risa, Vice President of Singapore Office All Nippon Airways; Ms OSADA Kanako, a chief lecturer of Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur; and Mr HATANAKA Hiroyuki, President of the Japanese Association, were in attendance.
Winners received certificates and trophies, together with various prizes, including Japanese books, cameras, Japanese restaurant vouchers and Japanese handkerchiefs. The winner of the Advanced Category received a round ticket to Japan.
