The 33rd Japanese Speech Contest Group Presentation Category

The Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C), and the Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), in cooperation with the Department of Co-Curricular Education (DCCE) from Ministry of Education, the Japan Foundation, Japanese Association in Brunei and Brunei Association of Japan Alumni (BAJA) co-organised the 33rd Japanese Speech Contest Group Presentation on Friday, 27 November 2020 at the Embassy of Japan.
The aim of the speech contest is to encourage and provide a platform to participants to show their language proficiency and passion for the Japanese language through public speaking. In addition, the event aims to create an opportunity for Bruneian students from secondary, sixth form and IBTE to know more about Japan. The contest is comprised of two categories; the group presentation category and the speech category.
Despite schedule disruptions due to COVID-19, the group presentation category was held and a total of 5 groups that had already passed the preliminary contest participated. Ambassador YAMAMOTO Eiji, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, Dr Yabit Alas, Director of Language Centre (UBD), Mr Walter Chong, Deputy Director (L3C), Mr HATANAKA, President of the Japanese Association, Dr Liling (BAJA), and Dayang Hajah Hajidah binti Awang Haji Abd Wahab, Acting Assistant Director (DCCE) were in attendance.
The group that achieved 1st place were from Seri Mulia Sarjana School, with a presentation about Janpu Man. Ma’had Islam Brunei were runners-up with a presentation about Karate and Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki Hassanal Bolkiah came in third place with a presentation about Vending Machines. Ambassador Yamamoto presented prizes to the winning group in the Group Presentation category: a certificate, a trophy and gifts from the Japanese Association in Brunei.
