The 31st Japanese Speech Contest will be held on 3 March 2018
2018/2/21
The Continuing Education and Training Division of IBTE (IBTE-CET) of the Ministry of Education, the Language Centre of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam will hold the 31st Japanese Speech Contest on Saturday, 3 March 2018, from 9:30am onwards at the IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus. Everyone is welcome to attend the 31st Japanese Speech Contest (admission is free).
Twelve Bruneian participants will take part in the speech contest, which is divided into two categories: a Beginner’s Level and an Advanced Level. The Beginner’s Level is specifically for those who have studied the Japanese language for less than two years, while the Advanced Level has no restrictions in terms of length of study (however, the contestants must not have resided in Japan for more than three months within the last five years, or for a total of two years since the age of 6). This speech contest aims to encourage contestants to give a public demonstration of their proficiency in the Japanese language; it will also serve as an opportunity to foster closer ties between Brunei Darussalam and Japan and inspire greater friendship between the people of both countries.
In addition to the individual speech category, a group presentation category will be introduced for the first time this year. In this category, students from secondary schools, sixth-form schools and IBTE will present information about Japan, in English, using slides. This year, a total of eight schools will participate in this category.
All prizes and operating expenses will be sponsored by the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA) and the Japan Foundation, while the main prize, a one-week trip to Japan, is jointly sponsored by All Nippon Airways of Japan (ANA).
