2020/11/3
The Government of Japan has decided to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star upon Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Nor bin Haji Jeludin, Permanent Secretary and Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam in recognition of his significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Brunei Darussalam.

In 1984, he was one of the first Bruneians to participate in the Japanese Language Program for Foreign-Service Officers organised by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. He has been consistently committed to furthering good relations between Japan and Brunei Darussalam. During his tenure as Ambassador to Japan from 2003 to 2005, he greatly contributed to improving the friendship between our countries through numerous high level visits, including the visit of His Majesty the Sultan to Japan in December 2003 and the visit of His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince Naruhito (currently the Emperor of Japan) to Brunei to attend the wedding ceremony of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah in September 2004. He also contributed to the celebration of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brunei Darussalam in the year 2004. In 2019, His Majesty the Sultan visited Japan to attend the Enthronement Ceremony for His Majesty the Emperor Naruhito. His Majesty’s presence attracted great attention as the longest reigning head of state among international guests, and Dato Nor as Permanent Secretary and Chief of Protocol greatly contributed to make this historic visit in terms of Japan-Brunei relations.
