Mr Hiroshi Sawada and Pg Sukinah Binti Pg Dato Paduka Hj Hidup

On the 29th of April 2016, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2016 Spring Decorations. Mr Hiroshi Sawada, former President of the Japanese Association Brunei Darussalam and former Secretary-General of the Brunei-Japan Friendship Association (BJFA) is one of the Japanese recipients of the 2016 Spring Imperial Decorations and Pg Sukinah Binti Pg Dato Paduka Haji Hidup, former staff of the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, is one of the foreign recipients of the 2016 Spring Imperial Decorations.

- Mr Hiroshi Sawada
Mr Sawada received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, in recognition of his significant contribution, while living in Brunei Darussalam, to promote bilateral relationships between Brunei Darussalam and Japan, as well as to further Bruneian’s understanding of Japan. Mr Sawada is the first Japanese to receive this honour in relation to Brunei Darussalam.
Mr Sawada lived in Brunei Darussalam for more than 30 years, first arriving in Brunei Darussalam as a project manager for Mitsubishi Corporation in its joint venture with Brunei Darussalam to set up McFarm at Kg Tungku, Gadong, which was working on livestock breeding.
On the afternoon of the 12th of May 2016, Mr Sawada, together with his spouse, Mrs Shigeko Sawada, attended the conferment ceremony conducted by Mr Yoji MUTO, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and had an audience with His Majesty the Emperor at the Imperial Palace.

Pg Sukinah received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays, in recognition of the 30 years of her dedicated service at the Embassy of Japan to promote the bilateral relationships between Brunei Darussalam and Japan, as well as to become a role model to the local staff of the Embassy.
Pg Sukinah started her work as an assistant to the Education, Culture and Information Division just a year after the Embassy commenced its work in Brunei Darussalam in 1984, and changed her position to work at the Consular Division from 2004 to 2015.
Pg Sukinah received a congratulatory message from Mr Fumio KISHIDA, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. Ambassador Madam Noriko Iki will hold a conferment ceremony at her residence.
