2026/7/6
From June 29 to July 2, the Embassy of Japan welcomed students to experience Japanese culture during the Jerudong International School (JIS) Enrichment Week. Eighteen students participated in a variety of Japanese cultural experience programs, including bon odori (traditional Japanese folk dancing), yukata-wearing, and makizushi (rolled sushi) making.

At the closing ceremony on July 2, Ambassador Kikuta presented a Certificate of Commendation to JIS in recognition of the school's distinguished service in contributing to the deepening of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Brunei Darussalam, as well as in celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Enrichment Week focused on Japan. The certificate was received on behalf of the school by Academic Director Mr Alex Cook.

Ambassador Kikuta shared a message with the students, expressing his hope that their experiences during the Enrichment Week went beyond simply learning about a different culture, but also gave them a glimpse into the spirit and values of Japan. He highlighted that Japan's post-war reconstruction was not founded upon natural resources, but upon the development of human capital and a steadfast commitment to education. Ambassador Kikuta further emphasized that the responsibility of shaping Brunei's future lies in the hands of the well-educated young generation present before him. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the executive principal, teachers, and staff of JIS for their 10 years of dedication to the Enrichment Week and expressed his wish for students to have a bright and successful future ahead.

At the closing ceremony, Ambassador Kikuta performed Kendo Kata together with members of the Brunei Kendo Association. Students delivered presentations on their research into Japanese culture, and at the conclusion of the closing ceremony, Ambassador Kikuta presented certificates of completion to the students.
