The Government of Japan has decided to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star upon Yang Mulia Haji Mahamud Bin Haji Ahmad, Former Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Japan, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Brunei Darussalam.
Haji Mahamud served as Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Japan from 2012 to 2016. During his four-year tenure, he made significant contributions to fostering strong relations between our countries. He played a pivotal role in facilitating high level visits, including the visit of His Majesty the Sultan and other members of the Royal Family, which helped to promote the longstanding ties between the Imperial and Royal Families. In particular, in 2013, which marked the 40th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN friendship and cooperation and coinciding with Brunei’s Chairmanship of ASEAN, there was a surge in high-level exchanges. These included the visit of then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Brunei, alongside engagements involving ministers and senior officials from both sides. Such interactions helped advance cooperation across a wide range of areas, including trade, energy, and cultural exchange.
