37th Japanese Speech Contest

2026/3/19
The 37th Japanese Speech Contest was held on Wednesday, 18 March, co-organised with the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam, Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C), and Language Centre of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), supported by Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) and the Japan Foundation.

The speech contest aims to encourage learners of Japanese language as well as those who are interested in Japan to demonstrate their language proficiency and/or public speaking skills, and to maintain their passion. This year, we opened up the Japanese Speech (Beginner) Category to secondary school students who are studying Japanese as part of their curriculum.

Winners received certificates and trophies, along with various prizes. The winner of the Japanese Speech (Advanced) Category won a trip to Japan, sponsored by RBA, to participate in “the Japanese Speech Presentation by the Winners of the Japanese Speech Contest in ASEAN Countries” programme in Tokyo in October.

His Excellency Mr KIKUTA Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, Dr Juliana Shak, Director of the Language Centre, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Mr Haji Mohammad Jaafar bin Haji Johari, Head of Academic of the L3C, Mr Ali Rahim bin Hj Abdul Rani, Manager Integrated Marketing of Royal Brunei Airlines, Mr MASUDA Hiroyuki, President of the Japanese Association in Brunei Darussalam, and Ms HIRATA Yuna, Lecturer of the Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur were in attendance.
