A courtesy visit from "JENESYS 2025 Brunei-Japan Environmental Protection Exchange" participants

On 29 January, Ambassador Kikuta received a courtesy call from participants of the “JENESYS 2025 Brunei-Japan Environmental Protection Exchange” held in Japan in November 2025.
Eight Bruneian participants, who are academically or professionally engaged in the field of environmental protection, took part in the one-week programme. During the programme, they visited various places, including Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, where they attended a lecture on Marine Plastic Waste and Pollution. They also visited the Machida City Bioenergy Center to deepen their understanding of Japan’s recycling systems. In addition, the participants travelled to Shizuoka Prefecture, where they experienced homestays with local families.
During the courtesy call, the participants shared the knowledge and experiences gained from the programme and expressed their aspirations to apply these insights to their work and academic pursuits in Brunei. Ambassador Kikuta expressed his hope that participants understand Japan’s recycling system in its society as a whole, not merely in appearance.
