On 10 December, Ambassador Kikuta received a courtesy visit from Mr Wan Mohammad Aidi Bin Jufriza, the winner of the 36th Japanese Speech Contest that was held in Brunei in March.

As the prize for winning the contest, in October, he participated in the “Japanese Speech Contest Outstanding Participants Invitation Program,” together with Japanese Speech Contest winners from the other ASEAN countries. Organised by Japan Overseas Enterprises Association, the programme offered participants the opportunity to visit Japan, take part in the Japanese speech presentation by the winners, interact with Japanese university students, and explore cultural and historical sites.

He summarised his experience of joining the programme as very eventful and educational. "All the participants had different goals, but we all share a love for Japan. A short but meaningful programme that not only gave us new skills and experiences, but also long-term connection," he said.

The 37th Japanese Speech Contest is scheduled for next March.
