A visit to Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (Japanese Language Class)by Ms IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan

On 22 July 2025, Ms IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan, visited Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School to observe a Japanese Language class for Year 7 taught by Mr Nazriman.
During the visit, Ms Ikuina had the opportunity to interact with the students in Japanese. The students also performed a Japanese song, demonstrating what they had learned through the Japanese classes. Ms Ikuina encouraged them to continue learning Japanese language and explore more about Japan. In a separate meeting with Ms Hajah Nor Aisah, Principal of the school, and Ms Hajah Marina Chek, Director of Schools, Department of Schools, Ministry of Education, Ms Ikuina expressed her appreciation for their efforts to start Japanese language classes and her expectation for continuity of Japanese language education in schools in Brunei.
Japanese language classes were introduced as an optional subject for Year 7 and Year 8 students (ages 12-14) in three public secondary schools in Brunei starting in January 2025.
