Ambassador Kikuta`s Remarks for His Majesty`s Birthday

I am KIKUTA Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam. On behalf of the Government and people of Japan, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of his 79th birthday. It is also my honour to tell you that a congratulatory message from His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, expressing His warm regards and best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan has been conveyed. Indeed, Japan and Brunei have shared a longstanding and excellent bilateral relationship for more than 40 years, underpinned by Imperial and Royal ties.
Since my arrival in Brunei last December, I have been deeply impressed by the beauty of this country and people’s goodwill. I am enjoying myself and feel privileged to be Japanese Ambassador here.
I am determined to further strengthen the friendly ties between our nations through our various activities in Brunei. Namely, the Embassy of Japan is planning to host the Second Japanese Food Fair at OneCity Shopping Centre in coming August. In September, an art exhibition, sorry exhibition only, not for eating, titled as “I love Sushi” which will explore the history of sushi and showcase related traditional artworks will be held at Malay Technology Museum. I understand that Japanese cuisine, especially, sushi is a favorite of Bruneians, I warmly invite all of you to join these events and enjoy the culture and flavors of Japan.
I would also like to take this opportunity to highlight EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai, which is now open and will run until the 13th of October in Japan. I appreciate Brunei’s participation in this world expo, together with more than 160 countries, regions and international organizations. I hope that many of you Bruneians will take this opportunity to visit there, and immerse yourselves in the diverse cultural and technological experiences.
In closing, I once again offer my best wishes to His Majesty the Sultan for continued good health, and to you the people of Brunei Darussalam for happiness, peace and prosperity under His Majesty’s reign.
