2025 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals

The Government of Japan has decided to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star upon Yang Mulia Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Idriss bin Pengiran Temanggong Pengiran Haji Mohammad, former Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Japan, in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting friendship between Japan and Brunei Darussalam.
Dato Paduka Haji Idriss is the longest-serving Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Japan, having held the position from 1987 to 1996. During his nine-year tenure as the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Japan, he made significant contributions to fostering strong relations between our countries. He played a pivotal role in facilitating high level visits, including the visit of His Majesty the Sultan to Japan in 1989 for the Funeral Ceremony of Emperor Showa and for the Enthronement Ceremony of His Majesty the Emperor Akihito (now the Emperor Emeritus) in 1990, which helped to promote the longstanding ties between the Imperial and Royal Families.
Dato Paduka Haji Idriss also contributed significantly to the launch of Royal Brunei Airlines' regular flights to Japan. He worked closely with the governments towards the conclusion of an Agreement between Japan and Brunei Darussalam for Air Services. The Agreement was signed in 1993, and Royal Brunei Airlines commenced its regular flights to Japan, greatly enhancing people-to-people exchanges between our countries.
