Courtesy Call from JENESYS 2024 ASEAN – Japan Students Conference Participants

On 12 February, Ambassador KIKUTA Yutaka received a courtesy call from students of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University who participated in “JENESYS 2024 ASEAN – Japan Students Conference” held in Japan in January 2025.
Together with participants from Japan and other ASEAN countries including Timor-Leste, they were divided into three groups: “Maritime security and rule of law”, “Energy and climate change” and “Education and culture preservation”, to discuss common issues between Japan and ASEAN countries. Throughout the one-week programme, they also visited different parts of Japan, namely the prefectures of Shizuoka, Miyagi and Tochigi and experienced homestays with local families respectively.
As part of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme, this initiative aims to foster mutual trust and understanding among the peoples of Japan and the Asia-Pacific region.
During the courtesy visit, the participants shared with Ambassador the knowledge and experiences they gained from the program and expressed their willingness to apply them into their academic achievements back in Brunei.
