2024/5/31
MR SUDA Atsushi, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan together with Commander Malek Fadillah, Assistant Chief of Staff Naval Operations, Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) welcomed two naval ships led by Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro, Commander of Training Squadron of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, JS KASHIMA and JS SHIMAKAZE.

The two visiting naval ships, carrying around 570 Japanese naval personnel, including about 190 graduates of the 74th General Officer Candidate Course, will be in Brunei from 30 May 2024 to 2 June 2024.

During their stay in Brunei, they will visit the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Museum, Kampong Ayer, the Brunei Arts and Handicraft Centre, mosques, and many other tourist attractions.

The most exciting and memorable part is commemorating Japan-Brunei Friendship Year 2024 with a ‘Japanese Cultural Showcase’ by onboard Yokosuka music band, on Saturday, 1 June 2024 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Times Square Shopping Centre.

The visit by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force aims to not only provide trainee officers with on-the-job training opportunities through sea cruises, but also to promote friendship and goodwill with visiting countries and to contribute to the realisation of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
