Japan-Brunei Policy Dialogue

   Mr. ARIMA Yutaka, Director-General of Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, and Pengiran Norhashimah binti Pengiran Mohd Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Politics and International Organisations) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, held the First Meeting of the Japan-Brunei Policy Dialogue in Brunei on February 15. This dialogue was held following the Japan-Brunei Foreign Ministers’ Meeting where the two ministers concurred to hold high-level consultations between the diplomatic authorities in August 2022.

   During the dialogue, both sides exchanged views on the economy, energy, maritime cooperation, people-to-people exchange, and the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, and concurred to continue to promote cooperation in a wide range of areas looking ahead to the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brunei next year. Futhermore, both sides exchanged views on regional situations and other regions, as well as cooperation in the international arena, and concurred to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two countries.

   After the meeting, Mr. ARIMA paid a courtesy call on Dato Seri Setia Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Minister of Foreign Affairs II of Brunei Darussalam and reaffirmed that the two countries will work together for further development of bilateral relations.
