Visit of JMSDF JS IZUMO, JS MURASAME and JS AKEBONO to Brunei Darussalam

    Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s Helicopter Carrier JS IZUMO, and Destroyers JS MURASAME and JS AKEBONO visited the Muara Port, Brunei Darussalam as a part of Indo-Pacific Deployment 2019 (IPD19)* from Sunday 23 to Wednesday 26 June 2019.

    Under Rear Admiral Hiroshi Egawa, Commander of the Escort Flotilla 1, approximately 800 personnel joined the deployment.

    During their stay, Rear Admiral Egawa paid a courtesy call to the Minister of Defence II, Commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and Commander of Royal Brunei Navy. The crews participated in exchange programmes, such as football and judo, and took part in a beach cleanup. The Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, H.E. Motohiko Kato, and the Rear Admiral co-hosted a reception onboard.

    They conducted a passing exercise (PASSEX) with the Royal Brunei Navy in Brunei territorial waters.

* The purpose of IPD19 is to conduct joint exercises in the Indo-Pacific region with the navies and other armed forces of other countries to improve its tactical capabilities and strengthen its coordination with foreign forces. In addition, through these exercises, the JMSDF intends to contribute to the peace and stability of the region and enhance mutual understanding and trust among the participating countries.
