【Acceptance of human resources from overseas】
When a foreign worker finds employment in Japan, he or she needs to acquire a visa, in particular a visa for a long stay. You can apply for it at the Embassy. To apply for a visa you need to acquire the “Certificate of Eligibility” and the documents which you need for the Certificate depend on your job in Japan, so, after finding potential employment, please obtain this information from the visa section of the Embassy.

As for applying for the Certificate of Eligibility, you can use the “Points-Based System for Highly Skilled Foreign Professionals” as one method. The points-based system provides highly-skilled foreign professionals with preferential immigration treatment and some other benefits such as permission for multiple activities during the stay in Japan and a “5 year” period of stay. To apply for the system you need to check the point evaluation mechanism.
Point Evaluation Mechanism
The activities of the highly-skilled foreign professionals are classified into the following three categories:
(i) Advanced academic research activities
(ii) Advanced specialized/technical activities
(iii) Advanced business management activities
According to characteristic features of each category of activity, points will be assigned to each item, such as “academic background,” “professional career,” “annual salary,” and “research achievements.” Applicants are evaluated by adding up their points and making reference to the category of activity that they intend to engage in. You can find the detail of the point calculation table in the attached PDF file and on the website below.
