On 12 and 13 August, the ASEAN@50 Exhibition, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, was organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade at the International Convention Centre (ICC).
The Embassy of Japan participated in the event, together with the embassies and high commissions of other ASEAN member countries and its dialogue partners in Brunei, by holding a photo exhibition which showed Japan’s cooperation with ASEAN and Brunei since the 1960s, a presentation of Japanese food by the Ambassador’s chef at the Makan Fair, an Ikebana demonstration by Ms Risho Saito, a distinguished Ikebana master, and a presentation about the Japanese government scholarship and the learning of Japanese language.
Dato Seri Paduka Haji Erywan bin Pehin Yusof, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, who was the guest of honour at the event, visited the Embassy’s booth and looked at display panels which showed the JICA’s programme and cooperation by Japanese companies in Brunei. He also tasted and enjoyed the Japanese food made by the Ambassador’s chef at the Makan Fair. Many people participated in this event, including government officials, students and other people in Brunei, giving them a great opportunity to understand the history of ASEAN and the long friendship that has been built with its partners.
