Brunei-Japan Badminton Exchange to commemorate the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam held on 24 – 27 October 2016

  The Embassy of Japan in Brunei, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Brunei and the Brunei Badminton Association co-organised a Brunei-Japan Badminton Exchange to commemorate the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. With cooperation by The Nippon Badminton Association, 5members from Japan National Badminton team visited Brunei from 23 to 28 October; Sho Sasaki (Tonami Transportation Co. Ltd.) who took part in the Rio and London Olympic men’s singles, marking it to the tio eight for London Olympics, Yu Igarashi (Chuo University), Kenya Mitsuhashi (Nihon University), Miyuki Kato (Tsukuba University), and Miki Kashihara (Tsukuba University) together with Mr Yoshinori Uematsu, the Head Manager, National Team of Japan Badminton Association, and Mr Yusuke Nakanishi, the Coach of National Team. This Exchange was held from 24 to 27 October and was part of “Sport for Tomorrow*” initiative. During their stay, the delegation visited Sports School, Jerudong International School and International School Brunei to play with the students as well as having some practice matches and coaching sessions at Indoor Stadium. At the farewell reception on 27 October hosted by the Embassy of Japan, many guests of Brunei enjoyed communicating with Japanese Badminton Players and eating Japanese dishes.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman; Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah were present to watch the practice matches on 26 October.
