Brunei-Japan Badminton Exchange to commemorate the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam
The Embassy of Japan in Brunei, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in Brunei will be co-organising a Brunei-Japan badminton exchange to commemorate the 70th birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. The Nippon Badminton Association and the Brunei Badminton Association are cooperating with this event.
This sports exchange will take place from 24 to 27 October and is part of Prime Minister Abe’s “Sport for Tomorrow” initiative, which aims to promote sport to over 10 million people in over 100 nations until 2020 when Japan will host the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Brunei will be visited by a team of Japanese national-level top athletes in the field of badminton, including Mr Sho Sasaki, who took part in the Rio and London Olympic men’s badminton singles, making it to the top eight for the London Olympics. It is planned to have practice matches and coaching sessions with Bruneian people at the Indoor Stadium from 25 to 27 October.
