Japan’s National Institute for Defence Studies visits Brunei

  A delegation from the National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS) from Japan was in Brunei Darussalam for a three-day study tour from 2-4 June. The delegation visited the Ministry of Defence on 3 June.

 

  During the visit to the Ministry of Defence, the head of delegation, Captain Tetsuo Ando and his delegation received a briefing on the functions and roles of the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Brunei Darussalam’s defence policies, the Defence Academy as well as an overview of the regional security environment. Representatives from NIDS made presentations of security challenges that were facing Japan and the region.

 

  This is the first time NIDS came to visit MINDEF and provides both institutes an opportunity to exchange views on defence cooperation and regional security environment. The delegation made a visit to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Museum at the Bolkiah Garrison and then made a courtesy call to Ambassador Madam Noriko Iki at the Embassy of Japan in Brunei.

 

  The delegation also deepened their friendship with the official of the Ministry of Defence and the defence attaché from the diplomatic corps at the Ambassador’s residence.
