Consular Service

(Effective 1 April 2010 until 31 March 2011 )

 Documents to be submitted with Visa Applications

 A)  General Purpose

  1. Valid passport and copy (the bio-data page and for foreigners working in Brunei we also require the pages with Brunei’s Immigration stamps example Employment Pass, Dependent Pass, Re-Entry)

  2. One (1) official visa application form

  3. One (1) recent passport-sized photo with white background taken at least within 6 months and to be affixed to the application form.  Do not staple, please.

  4. Air ticket or flight itinerary or tentative flight booking.

  5. Letter from employer using company’s letterhead certifying the identity of the applicant, period of service in the company and purpose of journey to Japan and/or copy of company’s registration.  For those applicants who are self-employed or those who are not working, please produce a self explanatory letter stating how expenses will be borne.

  6. Latest 1-month bank statement

 NOTES:

  1. Applicants are requested to submit additional documents depending on the purpose of the visit (see below) 

  2. Foreigners working in Brunei must have stayed in Brunei for at least a year and their working permit must be valid for at least another 6 months at the time of applying

  3. Brunei nationals do not require visas to enter Japan for a stay of 14 days or less  

Processing days

3 to 5 working days or even longer depending on approval from home government.  It is advisable to apply visa well in advance.

Gratis for Malaysia , Philippines and Pakistan nationals
B$13.00 for India nationals 
B$46.00
for other nationals
Visa fee may be increased or reduced without prior notice

 Additional documents required for the following purposes:

 B)  Business
1.   Invitation letter from Japan
2.   Company registration from Japan (if requested)

 C)  Visiting Relative
1.   Invitation letter from relative
2.   Alien Registration Certificate of relative
3.   Passport copy of relative
4.   Document certifying the personal relationship between invitee and applicant

 D)  Visiting Friend
1.   Invitation letter from friend
2.   Alien Registration Certificate of friend, if non-Japanese
3.   Passport copy of friend
4.   Copy of Certificate of Resident in Japan [Juminhyo], if non-Japanese
5.   Copy of Certificate of tax in Japan [Gensen Choshuhyo]

 E)  Transit
1.   Third country visa

 F)  Joining Tour Group
1.   Tour itinerary in Japan

 NOTE:

The Embassy of Japan, may in certain cases, request applicant to submit additional materials besides those mentioned above, if found necessary.
