Two
Bruneians to Participate in
the
JENESYS International Forum
Two
Bruneians will take part in an
international forum in
Tokyo
,
Japan
in order to discuss several inter-cultural issues
towards the creation of the East Asia Community. They
are Dr Nani Suryani, a
lecturer of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science,
the
University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
and Mr Mohd Nasroul Hizam, a journalist from the Brunei Times. Today,
they paid a courtesy call to the
Ambassador of Japan, H.E.
Mr. Hashimoto Itsuo at the Chancellery of the Embassy of Japan.
The
International Forum titled “Towards an
East
Asia
Community: Beyond Cross-Cultural Diversity”
will be
held on 17th December. It
will be co-organized by the
Japan Foundation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Waseda
University Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies as one of the Japan-East Asia
Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) programmes which were
initiated by the former Prime Minister, Mr. Shinzo Abe at the second East Asian
Summit last January.
The Forum is divided
into three sub themes: Inter-cultural, Inter-societal and Inter-faith Dialogue. This
forum is convened to discuss the common issues of
East Asia
with young
Asian intellectuals and professionals in various fields in order to contribute
to the creation of an East Asian Community in the future. The participants are
from ASEAN countries as well as
Australia
,
China
,
India
,
Republic
of
Korea
,
New Zealand
and
Japan
.
Both
Bruneian participants will leave on 8th
December and return on 19th December. They will have several preparatory discussion meetings
and lectures for the forum as well as visit to cultural sites in
Tokyo
.
