Three Bruneian students were recently selected to undergo courses in Japan under a prestigious scholarship programme from the Japanese government.
The Ambassador of Japan, Hashimoto Itsuo, last week hosted a dinner for the selected students namely Ahmad Iskandar bin Hj Mohd Taha, Lim Ming Sheng and Ak Roni Ismadani. They will commence their studies in the "Land of the Rising Sun" this month.
Ahmad Iskandar will pursue his postgraduate studies at Hokkaido University, where he will also be learning the Japanese language.
Ming Sheng will undergo a six-month Japanese language course at the University of Kanazawa before moving to the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology for a research programme.
Meanwhile, Ak Roni Ismadani, who successfully completed an intensive Japanese language course in February, will continue his Master's programme at Hiroshima University.
Every year, the Japanese government offers a variety of scholarships to youths in Brunei.
Application forms for the 2009 scholarships for postgraduate research courses, undergraduate courses, college of technology and professional training college will be available from mid-April. Application period is between April and mid-June.
Successful applicants will leave for Japan in April next year.
