ASIAN CARTOON EXHIBITION

The Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation is organising the 11th Asian Cartoon Exhibition that is going to be held in Brunei for two weeks from 22nd January to 5th February 2008 at the Brunei Museum .

The Asian Cartoon Exhibition has been organised annually by the Japan Foundation since 1995, employing the friendly medium of cartoons to introduce Asian societies, cultures and peoples’ ways of life from various perspectives. The theme of this year’s exhibition is “Asian Youth Culture”. It will feature 10 leading cartoonists from 10 countries such as Japan , Malaysia , Indonesia , Thailand , the Philippines , India , Bangladesh , Sri Lanka , Vietnam and China . A Bruneian cartoonist, Mr Rahim Jahit, famously known as ‘Cuboi’, will also be invited in this exhibition by featuring 7 of his artworks while UBD students will feature 4 artworks.

The artworks depict the youth culture in the respective nations for our entertainment as well promoting awareness of our Asian similarities and diversities. The various cartoonists have imbued their works with a unique sense of humour and satire that is expected to be amusing and insightful for the Asian society, culture and lifestyle.

This exhibition is open to the public, free of charge, which aims to promote cultural awareness and exchange between the people of Brunei Darussalam and Asian countries.

The opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 22nd January at 10am at the Brunei Museum. The guest of honour is Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahim.
