A Japanese Government Scholarship Student

to leave for Japan

          The Japanese Government offers a variety of Scholarship Programmes to Bruneians including postgraduate research courses, undergraduate courses, professional training and teacher training courses. 

          Ak Hj Roni Ismadani bin Pg Ismail, will embark on a journey to Japan next week to begin a programme of study after being awarded the ‘Asian Youth Fellowship (AYF) Scholarship’.  The ‘AYF Scholarship’ is a unique program and offered to university or college graduates in only 10 ASEAN countries plus Bangladesh who have a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree.  It provides intensive Japanese language training and the opportunity to study in a Japanese graduate school.  First, he will take a Japanese language training course at the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute in Osaka for approximately 7 months. After completing the preparatory courses, he will proceed to a Japanese graduate school as a Japanese Government (Monbukagaku-sho) scholarship student.

          Ak Hj Roni Ismadani wishes to obtain a Master’s degree in the field of history study.  As a tutor at the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences, University Brunei Darussalam, he would like to carry out research on East Asian History.

      Under the AYF Scholarship, Ms Rosnah OPAI has studied at Hiroshima University and is now working at UBD as a lecturer. Currently, Mr Chin Wei Keh is studying at Tokyo Gakugei University . Including other Japanese Government Scholarships, 53 Brunei students have been awarded Japanese Government Scholarships to date.  Eleven students are currently studying in Japan ; Ak Hj Roni will be the 12th.  Applications for next year’s AYF Scholarship will be available soon.

Ak Hj Roni is expected to enhance his professional knowledge and skills as a teacher whilst also learning about the people and culture of Japan .  The Embassy of Japan sincerely hopes he will enjoy his study in Japan and make life-long friends.
